Skills for Life Tutor |
February 2007-date |
Bracknell Forest Council Adult Learning Service |
I provide a mobile outreach and in-centre service,
delivering Adult Skills for Life (Language, Literacy, Numeracy and ICT) to
‘hard to reach’ or Entry learners in local communities and at learning
centres. I developed the mobile outreach service from scratch. I deliver the
teaching, and manage the following: learner recruitment; initial, diagnostic
and Edexcel assessment; the onboard ICT.
I have experience of working in partnership, e.g., providing ESOL in the
context of ‘Healthy Lifestyles’ to Nepalese women (Skilled for Health), in
partnership with the Health Service. |

Adult Tutor |
January 2004-December 2006 |
East Riding Adult Education Service |
I have been teaching Skills for Life (Adult Numeracy/Literacy/a
little ESOL), a little Family learning (Multimedia) and Adult IT classes
(Browsing and Email, Web Design and ECDL) for the East Riding of Yorkshire
Adult Education Service.
The last contract has been a 10 week course
on WWW and Email for beginners, many of whom are older learners. |
|
Learndirect Tutor |
September 2003 -December 2006 |
Goole and Selby |
I looked after a caseload of Learndirect adult
learners engaged in literacy and Numeracy courses to level 2 and ICT from
beginners to level 2/3. I supported up to about 70 learners at any one
time in a training workshop, in small groups and online.
I have taken
particular responsibility for Skills for Life, e.g., ensuring test passes
meet targets and in 2004 acting as a Skills for Life Advocate, e.g.,
visiting centres and preparing materials, on initial assessment, good
practice and the Learndirect offer. |
|
Adult IT Tutor |
June 2002-July 2003 |
Lynx Workshops Casual work initially from Jan 2001 and from 2002-3
full-time. I taught and developed the IT training at the main centre
and at an outreach project. Lynx provides supported training for adults
living with or recovering from mental health problems. |
|
Research Assistant |
Sept 2001-June 2002 |
Coleg Sir Gar Fixed term contract researching into online
teaching methods/pedagogies. This was part of an innovative collaborative
project involving colleges in South West Wales. My work provided a good
basis for the subsequent development of online training materials, which
were then trialed and tested, thus increasing and sharing good practice in
this new training field. I left near end of contract because I wanted
a teaching post. |
